South Bend to Pittsburgh or Columns Write Themselves, Part 1
I took a taxi to South Bend airport earlier tonight. Two guys in their early twenties picked me up. Upon enterting the car I noticed that the driver wore a hat, which said "Freak" on it, and had a heart tattoo'd on his hand. I immediately knew I was in good hands. During the drive a man came over the receiver and said "the handicap guy is just blind, so we can pick him up because he won't bite." To the common person, you might find that unusual. However, since I had the opportunity to watch the driver and his friend play CHESS while they transported me to the airport, I didn't find the comment all that unusual. Chess is a very important game, so when the driver would have his head down for an extended period of time looking at the board and we would veer off the road, I kept my mouth shut so he could concentrate.
More details to come...
