NEW WEB ADDRESS February 28, 2005
I have switched my Web site to a new domain name and server: www.readdave.com. The change was because I have always felt that www.davidjakielo.com/columns was too tough for people to remember. It wasn't exactly something that rolled off the tongue. Hopefully the new, simple name will attract more readers.
If you encounter a portion of the site that is not fully operational, please let me know and I will correct the problem as soon as possible.
Thanks -- DavidFJ@aol.com.

QUESTION FOR DISCUSSION
Tonight I was at a Sheetz by Slippery Rock University. In the store many of the customers were college age, with certain people in pajamas getting a snack and others dressed up, probably about to hit-up the bar next door.
I approached one girl and asked her "where all the hot action was." She gave me a blank stare and when I asked again she said, "HUH?"
I only asked this to see what Slippery Rock University students are like. If I went to another college, how much different would my life be?
My question is, why do people seemed shocked sometimes when others try to talk with them? Are people weird or am I just creepy?
You decide.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT PLANS?
My friend Trevor Leonard wanted me to pass this along...
Hey everybody. This is really the first mass email I have ever sent out regarding Triangle Shirt Factory and I hope that all of you receive it. I just got offered to play at Paparazzi's on Pittsburgh's Southside (corner of 21st & Carson) this Wednesday, February 23rd! I am very excited but I need all of your help. The show will start around 9 and go till 12ish. You don't have to be 21 to enter, only to drink alcohol, so if you're under 21, come out and sing along! I'm trying to get as many people to come as possible so that I can hopefully play there again. I know it's last minute and a Wednesday night, meaning that everybody has work to do, but please come out, even if it's just for a drink or a couple songs. I'd truly appreciate it. Spread the word to anybody and everybody and I will see you all on Wednesday night!!!
Once again, here's the info:
COME ROCK W/ TRIANGLE SHIRT FACTORY
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 23 @ PAPARAZZI'S (21st & CARSON)
ALL AGES, +21 TO DRINK, NO COVER CHARGE
SHOW STARTS @ 9PM, GOES TILL 12AM.

HUNTER S. THOMPSON KILLS SELF
Many people might not recognize this name, but you should. He was the inspiration for the Johnny Depp character in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Hunter S. Thompson was a unique journalist who plunged himself into the story and wrote in first person. He often drank large amounts of alcohol or did drugs while covering various topics.
Recently in one of my classes I had to read one of his articles about the Kentucky Derby. I stayed in Thursday night and re-read the article. It really is an amazing piece of journalism that shows what the Derby is really like. It's not about the race (as every story about the Derby focuses on), it's about the large number of people who go there, get insanely drunk and lose money.
A news article about Thompson's death is available here.
If interested in his work, I recommend The Great Shark Hunt.
