Not Dave's best friend

Whenever people learn that I don't have a pet or see myself having one in the immediate future, they are quick to prejudge me. Sometimes they'll even accuse me of hating all animals. This is not true. Animals have many great qualities: they taste good, make beautiful jackets and guide blind people. Without pets like Lassie, countless barns would have burned and little Timmy would still be stuck in a pit somewhere.
